Stage acting
Are you interested in a career as a stage actor? Acting in theater is different than performing for TV or film. Read on to learn how to become a stage actor.
Let's start stage acting
Introduction
It is true that stage acting is more difficult and challenging than TV or other acting. Because, once having walked on the stage, you will have to "give" your performance and you will not get a second opportunity to give "that" performance again. Each performance stands on it's own. The audience itself can affect your performance too. So, you need a solid commitment and a lot of confidence to be a stage actor. This guide will tell you how to do that.
Step 1: Basic Tips for Acting
- Involve yourself in a drama school or theatre.
- Read your script carefully and memorize it.
- Pay attention to all stage directions.
- Read and watch plays frequently, this will expose you to what other actors are doing on stage.
Step 2: Tips for Stage Actors
- Never turn your back on the audience.
- Never look into an audience member's face. This may cause you to forget your dialogue, movement or expression.
- Focus on the balcony or wall, if possible...not on individuals' eyes.
- Never perform directly in front of, or directly behind, other cast member(s).
Stage position,movement and expressions.
Please observe this photo carefully, there are many things you can learn here.
First notice the positions....Each person has taken a separate position and no one is in front of or behind anyone else. Its so important...because if you help your fellow performers the drama will be perfect. Look at number 6 she successfully avoided this mistake ..as indeed has number 5.
Now look at the movements ...look at number 6 and 2 they have taken, what appears to be, a moving stance as if they are seeking something but which they cannot see ...look at number 4 who has performed a really cool action just like he is looking for something....But number 3 suddenly heard or felt something behind her...so she is looking behind her, but she has not turned around...only looking backward.
Lets follow the expressions, here every person has given an interpretable expression....we can easily observe that something is coming or about to happen that they are all trying to see ... but this it seems this unknown coming event is not just exciting to them, view number 1's hand, he has closed his hand into a fist, which can be read as the expected non visible event represents something fearful and the fist, shown by number1's hand, declares that they are ready to face it.
These three issues, (position, movement and expression) are the most important elements of stage acting. Stand in front of a mirror and try to follow/copy every person in this photo.
Step 3: Extra Tips for Better Acting.
- Challenge yourself to do exactly what your role calls for.
- Ask for tips from experienced actors.
- Practice, practice and more practice!
- Know about your stage direction.
