Introduction

They function as part of a medical oncology team, using radiation as part of a treatment plan that may include surgery and chemotherapy. -
Step 1: Education
Radiation therapists can receive training through three different programs. They can receive an associate's degree in radiation therapy, or pursue a bachelor's degree in radiation therapy. If you already have a college degree in radiography (the science of reading xrays), you can receive a certificate in radiation therapy. Many employers will give preference to radiation therapists with bachelor's degrees. -
Step 2: Licensing
Each state sets its own requirements for radiation therapists. Step 3: Certification
The American Association of Radiation Therapists (AART) provides national certification for radiation therapists. Even though not all states require certification, employers may require or prefer certification. In order to become a certified radiation therapists, you'll need to successfully complete an accredited education program, and pass the AART certification exam. Certfication must be renewed annually, and there are continuing education requirements that need to be satisfied for renewal. -
