History
Have you ever wondered how to become a Miami Dolphins Cheerleader? The Miami Dolphins have had cheerleaders on their sidelines since 1966 and at the time the age range was from 8 years old to 18. The Miami Dolls, as they were called, was a squad of 125 girls from which 48 were chosen weekly to help get the fans excited.
In 1977 the selection process was changed by owner of the Dolphins, Joe Robbie who enlisted the help of the famed choreographer, June Taylor to train the new Dolfin Star Brites. Ladies were invited to audition and of the over 300 hundred that did, 30 were selected.
The synchronized, high kicking half-time Star Brite presentations, along with a 22 piece brass band, wowed the fans as they performed onstage in the Orange Bowl's east end-zone. In 1983, they changed their name to the Miami Dolphin Cheerleaders.
In 1990, the Cheerleaders retired their go-go boots, and replaced them with sneakers. Then in 1994 the Miami version of the June Taylor Dancers was replaced by a more conventional co-ed cheerleading squad that focussed on stunts and pompoms.
In 1996, the Cheerleading team, under the direction of former Dolphin Cheerleader, Dorie Grogan, readopted their original dancing format.
Now, in the 21st century, the Miami Dolphin Cheerleaders, donning their white boots, not only appear at the games, but also have appeared internationally, entertained the U.S. troops, and are extremely active in the Miami community and are one of the favorite cheerleading squads in the NFL.
