To become a dentist is very satisfying if that is what you want to do. Here I will give the main components of becoming a dentist in the UK. It is very different compared to the US. I am a 6 year qualified dentist and have a quest to teach young students how they can get into dental school. I have already taught many young students successfully. It is really improtant firstly to think about your decision as it will effect a large part of your life, And also to have an advantage when applying to dental school since it is so competitive. Step 1:
Think hard before embarking on a career that is long term and takes many years. The full course usually takes 5 years after A levels, followed by a vocational year. Make sure you enjoy working with people, your hands and under time constraints. You will get a better idea of what the job entails by carrying out work experience or job shadowing. You should do a minimum of 2 weeks. You will probably get your work experience in a dental practice. This is really helpful since 80% of all qualified dentists become general practitioners in dental practice. It will alos give you a general view about the jo -
Step 2:
Make sure you really work hard with all your exams starting with your GCSEs. You will have to study hard for these since there is alot of competition for places at University, they now look at your GCSE results. Also it will give some indication of how well you will do in your A levels. Some universitu=ies will expect 6 - 7 A/a*'s in your GCSEsMake sure you do Biology and Chemistry. You will need AAB in your A level and an AS level. You will also have to do the UKCAT test and UCAS application. It is very competitive so do the best you can. In your first year of A levels you will have to do a lot of work since you will be doing your UKCAT test, and your AS1's. UKCAT exams are not easy and will require you to practice...so do not underestimate them
