If you think you have what it takes to nail this audition, then it’s time to get the process started. Much like any other job, you start with an application. After the application is accepted, you’ll move on to the next phase, which is the audition. The audition is the most important piece of the process so be sure to get ready to compete for the spotlight. Keep in mind before you begin the process that this isn’t a full time job. Most cheerleaders hold part-or-full-time careers or attend college in addition to their work on the team. It’s time to move on to the first step: the application.
Tips for Making the Team
The organization isn't just looking for a pretty face, be sure to master the following dance categories: jazz, hip-hop, and pop. You must not only be a pretty face, but also be a true dancing athlete. Additionally, athleticism, dance skill, and football knowledge are equally as important. Focus on these categories prior to your audition to ensure you nail your performance.
Step 1: Send in Your Application Form
The application is the first part of the process to become a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader. The application outlines all of the information you’ll need, including compensation, requirements, and personal appearance suggestions. The application is more than just your background information. You'll also need a signed "Waiver and Release" form, a signed "Fair Credit Reporting Act Consumer Report Disclosure" form, a signed "Participation and Personal Appearance Release" form, $25 non-refundable application processing fee, and lastly non-returnable photograph of yourself.www.dallascowboyscheerleaders.com/.../DCC_Audition_Application_2010v1.doc When you’ve gathered all of your information and signed every form, you’ll submit it to:
- Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Auditions
- One Cowboys Parkway
- Irving, TX 75063-4945
After your application is received, you will receive an e-mail stating that your application was accepted. Wait one week prior to auditions if you have not received the e-mail from the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader organization.http://www.dallascowboyscheerleaders.com/auditions/auditions_faq.cfm
While waiting for the results, it would benefit you to attend one (or several) prep classes that are hosted by the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader organization. Although they are non-mandatory, these classes are extremely beneficial to prepare you for the audition. Because they are taught by Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader Choreographers and Group Leaders, you know you'll be receiving the instruction you need before you strut your stuff on the big audition day.
Step 2: The Audition
When it comes to the audition, it’s not necessarily a “wing it” type of event. A lot of preparation is required to ensure your performance is a success. Hair, makeup, attire, and choreographic dance are just a few elements you’ll need to perfect before standing in front of the judges. This is, after all, the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders so you’ll need to do whatever it takes to separate yourself from the group.
The first day of Preliminary Auditions will begin at 8:00 a.m. DON’T BE LATE. If you’re late, you’re excused from continuing the audition process. Be prepared to spend the whole day there meeting people and impressing judges. http://www.dallascowboyscheerleaders.com/auditions/auditions_faq.cfm
The audition attire is as followed:
- 2-Piece Attire
- Top: Dance/Athletic Bra Top
- Bottom: Hot Pants
- (No Tank Tops or Bike Shorts)
- Skin Colored Dance Tights (Non-Shimmery)
- Any Type of Dance Shoes
There is no requirement for the hair and makeup. For hair, it’s best to wear it as you naturally would to compliment your face. Also, be sure to keep it away from your face so the judges can get a good look at your smile. Additionally, your makeup should be natural and compliment your natural beauty.
Step 3: The Callbacks
For the first dance audition, you will perform your own personal style of dance in a group of five. Afterwards, the callbacks will be posted. However, for the semi-final dance audition, you'll learn a dance combination and kickline. This will also be performed in a group of five before the judges make the finalist selections.http://www.dallascowboyscheerleaders.com/auditions/auditions_faq.cfm
The finalists will go through the following final tests: personal interview, solo talent presentation, written essay, panel interview and test. The written test will be a cumulative exam that includes questions on general knowledge about the Dallas Cowboys Organization, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders history, the National Football League, current events, and dance terminology. If you make it the semi-round, it's best to start studying then to get prepared. After the test is completed, you'll perform a ninety second talent presentation. This is the moment you've been looking for to shine. Get out there, show what you can do, and be sure to show your personality as much as your talent.
After an exhausting audition process, the judges will decide who goes to training camp and who goes home.http://www.dallascowboyscheerleaders.com/auditions/auditions_faq.cfm The training camp is held every weekday usually from 7:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
So if you think you have what it takes, go for it. There’s no cheerleading team as coveted as the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.
