FOX operates open casting calls for So You Think You Can Dance several months before the season airs in several cities around the country. While showing up and dancing your best is one part of the process, there is also a considerable amount of paperwork necessary to score an audition.

So You Think You Can Dance judge Mary Murphy gives contestants tips to a successful audition, recommending that prospective contestants perform their best moves at the beginning of the audition rather than waiting to the end. Murphy also suggests contestants connect with the judges, get plenty of rest and eat right before their audition. Step 1: Know the Rules
So you think you have the talent to compete, well you must also meet certain eligibility requirements to be considered for an audition.

Step 2: Complete the Paperwork
As with any reality show, a number of legal forms must be signed before an audition will be granted. Application forms give permission for you to be filmed, tell the producers a bit about your background, let them know what music you'd like to use and release them from liability.

So you've filled out all the forms and are ready to audition, the next step is finding an open casting call and attending. Information on the dates and locations of open auditions is posted on the So You Think You an Dance official website when it comes available.

- Take special note of the date, time and location of the audition you wish to attend, as well as any additional in-person registration that may be required

- Arrive early as those at the end of the line may not get an audition due to time constraints
- Remain professionally and genuine all day, speaking confidently and thanking the staff for the opportunity
- Warm-up and practice your routine if possible before your audition time
- Don't be discouraged or intimidated by other competitors, show the producers what you do best
