How to Become a Computer Programmer

The job of a Computer Programmer is to create or code different programs that perform a specific task for a computer to execute. The program to be coded is analyzed and structured by a Systems Analyst or a Computer Software Engineer.

In order to come up with a program, a programmer must at least know a programming language that he must use. There are different programming languages out there that a programmer could use to build and structure an effective and efficient program.

  • Buy books that will help you with your work.

  • Knowing many computer languages is okay but make sure you're a master of at least two of them.

  • Practice makes perfect. Practice programming and you'll be a lot better in coding and structuring a program.

  • Join online forums and organizations for more tips and techniques when it comes to programming.

Introduction

Computer Programmers are the ones who code the program being executed in a computer. These programs are written using a computer language. To be a programmer, it's a must for you to master at least one or two programming languages. Not all programs can be written in only one language that's why it's necessary for programmers to know different languages he/she could use.

Do you want to be a programmer? Many programmers are good in arithmetic. Programmers must be logical. To Creating a program is similar to solving mathematical equation. So if you are good in math, you could be a good programmer as well.

Step 1: Get a Computer Course

The easiest way to get the job of being a programmer is to take up a computer course. Some popular computer courses you could take up are Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Information Technology.

From getting one of these courses (or any computer course your university can offer), you will be taught many different computer languages and other helpful topics for you.

Step 2: Self Study

If you already graduated from other courses and do not want to take up another college course, you can just self-study or attend seminars and tutorials on programming. Not all programmers out there have taken a computer course, but it didn't ultimately affect their ability to become a good programmer.

Step 3: Choose a Computer Language

You must choose a computer language that compliments your skills, knowledge and interests. If you're into web programming, then try to study any web programming language like HTML, ASP, PHP, etc. If you're into LAN based application or typical computer software application, then try mastering Visual Basic, Java, etc.

It depends on what you really want. It will be easier for you to choose if you've gone through Step One, which is going to college, because you've seen other languages and how they work so you would see what works best for you.

Step 4: Stay Current

If you're finally hired as a programmer, don't just sit back and relax. You must watch out for the latest trends in programming. This will keep you updated and competitive in the IT industry.
