Introduction
Does your son or daughter dream of acting alongside such child stars as Miley Cyrus, or with movie stars like Brad Pitt or Reese Witherspoon? Is your child thick skinned and determined, not to mention energetic, hardworking and talented? Most parents believe their children are teeming with talent, but you will not be the one auditioning them. Be realistic. If you really believe your child has a shot to capture the public's attention, then read on to learn what it takes to become a child star. -
Step 1: Take Classes
- The first step to becoming a child star is to sign your child up for classes. If you are able to, consider signing your child up for both group classes and private training with an acting coach. This will give them one-on-one time, as well as help them build their performance skills with other child actors and actresses their own age. Group classes allow kids to perform in front of their peers, which will ultimately give them the experience they need to audition effectively.
- Also consider enrolling your child in classes that may help them develop additional skills that ultimately set them apart from other children in their age group. This might include:
- Singing lessons
- Dance lessons
- Voice training
Step 3: Find an Agent or Manager
If you want your child to be a success, you are going to need to find them reputable representation in the form of a child agent, child manager or both. Agents and managers will work toward getting your child the best auditions for commercials, television shows and movies.Step 4: Start Auditioning
Auditioning is key. As mentioned before, becoming a child star does not happen overnight. Even if your son or daughter gets work on commercials, guest starring roles on television shows, or supporting roles in film, this does not mean they will become a star. In fact, there is a chance your child will always land roles such as these. There can only be so many Drew Barrymores and Ron Howards. The key to setting your child apart from the rest, however, is getting them in front of the casting agents. The more they audition, the stronger their chances of being cast in a breakout role. Make sure:
- You have reliable transportation to get to auditions
- You or someone close to you is able to take your child to and from auditions
- You are willing to make travel arrangements to and from Los Angeles or New York, usually at your own expense
