Introduction
Becoming a better wife is not an overnight task. You will need to reflect on your relationship, develop skills and routines, and break bad habits. Over time you will adapt and put into practice all the things you have learned and evolve into a better wife. Being a better wife does not mean waiting on your hubby hand and foot or being subservient and meek, it just means that you make some changes in areas that are lacking, or not as good as they could be in your position as a wife. -
Step 1: Figuring Out What to Improve
Evaluate your marital relationship. Not just the way it seems from the outside looking in, but from the inside. Are you a negative person who brings your spouse down with criticism and comments? Perhaps you aren't as involved in the intimate side of your marriage as you could be. Many of us are not the best housekeepers and could definitely improve that facet of our wifely lives. On the other hand some women are neat freaks who lose their temper if their hubby leaves something out of place. Maybe you don't pay much attention to him when he talks to you, or spend too much time talking "at" him instead of with him. All of these are important factors in a healthy marriage, and achieving a comfortable middle ground with these things will help you be a better wife.
- So now that you know what you need to improve you, get to decide how to make those improvements in order to be a better wife.
Step 2: Making Changes
Improving what could be basically called your personality or habits is best done in baby steps. You don't want to throw yourself wholeheartedly into being a "Donna Reed" wife for a week, and then fall back into the same old routine. Just make a few changes here and there. Fit these changes into your daily life and make them a part of your personality. You aren't adopting a new persona, simply improving your old one.
- Your spouse may not take notice immediately, and when he does notice he probably won't say anything because to declare that you are suddenly a better wife will seem to imply that you were a bad wife before. Men can be a little bit smarter and more tactful than we give them credit for. But you can be sure that he will notice and may even respond in kind and work at being a better husband.
Step 3: Are You a Better Wife Now?
Once you have improved the facets that you could see needed improving to be a better wife, re-evaluate your marriage and see what a difference the changes have made. Hopefully you and your spouse will get along better than ever, and he won't have any reason to complain about the house being too dirty or too clean. You will be enjoying intimate time together, and even having conversations.
- It is always good to see our efforts produce positive results, so if you want to be a better wife go ahead and take the plunge, it will be worth the effort. Remember Stepford is a fictional place, and there is no one who is a perfect wife--the idea is to be perfect for the one who loves you, imperfections and all.
