Powder is a versatile tool in your makeup kit. Tinted powder can be used on its own as a light coverage foundation, or translucent powder can be used to set liquid foundation. Powder can absorb oil helping to prevent breakouts on acne-prone skin, and can be reapplied throughout the day as needed.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Face_powder
Powder is available in two formats: pressed powder and loose powder. Loose powder can provide a softer look with more control over coverage, but can be messy and isn't very portable. Pressed powder often comes in a compact with a mirror, allowing you to reapply powder wherever and whenever you need it.
This guide will provide you with some tips on how to apply powder to your face.
Featured Video: How to Apply Powder
In this video by Mahalo, makeup artist Davee Troublefield provides a tutorial on how to apply powder to the face. Powder foundation provides a soft, light coverage to the face, resulting in a natural look that doesn't look too made up. Davee uses a large soft brush to apply powder all over the face, using sweeping and light pressing motions to deposit the powder.
Step 1: Gather your Materials
To expertly apply powder to your face, you only need two items:
- A pan of pressed mineral powder - Mineral powder is a finely milled facial powder that contains a minimal amount of binders or chemicals. Mineral powders are available in translucent or skin tone colors. The powder is pressed into a pan-shaped tin so that a small amount can be picked up by a brush or sponge.
- A large fluffy powder brush - A large, soft bristled brush with a spherical cut is best for applying powder to your face. Brushes with natural bristles have traditionally been best, although some synthetic bristles have been developed more recently that accurately replicate natural bristles.
Step 2: Apply Powder to Face
- Swirl the brush around the pan of pressed powder to pick up some product.
- Gently tap the brush to shake off excess powder.
- Sweep the brush over the face with a light touch to softly set the powder.
- Repeat this process to add more powder to different parts of the face.
Step 3: Finish the Application
When applying powder, press the brush gently into the eyelids to deposit powder. This will act as a base for eye shadow and help it stay in place longer. Also, extend the powder to the perimeters of the face to the hairline, across your jaw line, and down your neck, resulting in a consistent coverage all over the face.
If more coverage is required, use a makeup sponge or powder puff to pick up the powder instead of the brush. This will result in a more dense deposit of powder, allowing for coverage of red areas or blemishes.http://www.face-powder.com/how-to-apply-face-powder.htm
