In this video, Mahalo's makeup expert Katie Gurvin shows you how to perfectly apply foundation for your wedding day.
Introduction
Foundation is an important part of applying makeup. When your foundation looks fresh, so will the rest of your look. For this process, you'll need a foundation brush, foundation and a foundation sponge for blending (but you can also use your fingers).
Step 1: Find Your Shade
To find the best shade of foundation, go to a department/makeup store and try a couple different shades or brands until you find the one that works best for your skin tone. "The best shade" is the one that blends easily into your skin tone without a lot of work. Test it on your jawline, under the eyes and on your forehead to check. Depending on skin tone and sun exposure, you may need two different colors of foundation. Just make sure you blend them.
Step 2: Prep Your Skin
Wash your face with a gentle cleanser, then moisturize. Wait four to five minutes before applying your foundation so the moisturizer has time to absorb into the skin.
Step 3: Apply Primer
If you have oily skin, you can choose an oil-free primer. You can use the same brush for primer that you will use for foundation. The purpose of primer is to not only prep your face so your makeup lasts longer but to also ensure that your foundation goes on smoothly.
Step 4: Apply Foundation
Start with only a little bit of foundation on your brush and spread it evenly around your face. You can always add more, but if you start with too much, you'll spend a lot of time wiping the excess away. Start where you want the most coverage, which is generally in the center of your face near your nose. Blend outward, occasionally dabbing the brush on the back of your hand if needed.
Step 5: Set the Look
Take some mineral foundation and sweep if over your face with a powder brush (one that is larger and fluffier than a blush brush).
