In this video, Mahalo's makeup expert Katie Gurvin shows you how to perfectly apply false eye lashes for your wedding day.
Before You Start
If you've never applied false lashes before, buy several sets and keep practicing with them in the months leading up to your wedding. You don't want the first time you apply false lashes to be your wedding day. Also, make sure applying your false lashes is the last step of your eye makeup.
Step 1: Trim the Lashes
Pull the lashes out of the box by sliding them by the lash part; the adhesive should peel off. Place the lashes on your upper lashline without any adhesive to see if/where you should trim the lashes. A safe bet is to cut them in half to use on the outer portion of your eye. Always cut conservatively; you can always cut more, but you can't put more back.
Step 2: Prep for Lashes
Apply a bit of black eye shadow to where you'll be placing the lashes. This will give you a little bit of room for error if you can't get the lashes close enough. Also apply some liner/shadow to the clear band of the lashes.
Step 3: Apply Glue
When choosing a lash glue, even if your lashes come with black glue included, you may want to consider buying a separate tube of white glue. It comes out white, but will dry clear. Black glue, on the other hand, may smear and look odd when it dries.
Take a Q-tip and bend it in half. Apply some glue to the bend then run the lash band over the glue so that just a dental-thread amount coats the lashband. Focus glue on the ends of the lash. Let set for 20-30 seconds.
Step 4: Apply the Lashes
Lean your head back and narrow your eyes so that you can see yourself in the mirror. Don't close your eyes, but keep them relaxed. Apply the lashes directly on top of your natural lashline, making sure the edges are secure.
Step 5: Add More Liner
Since the false lashes add more definition to the area of your eye where you apply them, add some extra eyeliner elsewhere on your lashline to even out the dark area.
