In this video, Mahalo's makeup expert Katie Gurvin shows you how to perfectly apply contour and highlight for your wedding day.
Before You Start
Pick out a brush that looks a little like a blush brush but comes to a point at the end. You'll also want one that is soft and fluffy. Test the size of different ones against your face to make sure it fits with the contours of your face (cheekbones, nose, forehead, chin) otherwise you'll end up with color blotches.
Step 1: Contour
Dip your brush in the contour powder. Shake it so that any excess powder falls off. Start applying it where you want the most coverage. Generally, this means starting in the center of your cheekbone and blending up into your hairline. Start light and you can always build on the color. Dust along your forehead hairline if you want.
Step 2: Highlight
You have two options for highlighting: shimmery or matte. For a shimmery look, start with a liquid highlighting gel. You'll only need one pump. Using a brush with short, synthetic bristles, dab it into the highlighter then blot into the back of your hand to make sure it is spread evenly on the bristles. Apply to your cheekbones where the light would hit in small, circular motions. Apply also to the bridge of the nose and the upper lip
