How to Apply Acrylic Nails

Acrylic nails are fake nails that are applied in a mixture of powder and liquid which then dries on the nails, creating the impression of longer and stronger nails. Acrylic nails can be difficult to apply and are best done at a salon. They can be applied at home as well after some practice. This page is designed to teach you how to apply acrylic nails.

Acrylic nails are applied in liquid form and can therefore look more natural than fake nails that are attached by glue. They also last longer. Many salons also offer nail art to accompany the acrylic nails, such as flowers and other decorations which are created on top of the standard acrylic nail. Because of the degree of difficulty in the application, they are more expensive than standard fake nails. For best results, visit a nail salon if you want acrylic nails. They can also be applied at home, but the process requires some practice.

• You will need several items to apply acrylic nails.

1. Liquid acrylic
2. Powder acrylic
3. An acrylic brush for application
4. An acrylic nipper
5. Acrylic nail tips
6. A dish to hold the acrylic in
7. Nail oil
8. Glue
9. Standard manicure items such as nail polish remover and a nail file
10. Anti bacterial spray or hand sanitizer

1. Cut your nails short, so they will not be damaged if the acrylic nail is torn off.
2. Remove old nail polish, file and buff your nails. Push back the cuticles.
3. Make sure the nails are dry.
4. Use anti-bacterial spray or a hand sanitizer before the process to prevent the spreading of bacteria.
5. Since the acrylic contains strong chemicals, make sure to sit near an open window.

• Apply a small amount of glue on your nail tip in an upward direction.

1. Apply the acrylic nail tips. If you make any mistakes, the nail can be removed shortly after application by immersing the finger in water.
2. Trim your acrylic nail tip with a nail cutter and file.
3. Now it's time to apply the acrylic.
4. Pour liquid acrylic into a dish.
5. Dip your brush into the liquid acrylic, wipe it off against paper towel and dip it again. Then dip it into the powder acrylic.
6. Apply the mixture to your regular nail and the acrylic nail tip. Don't apply it to the cuticle area. Apply the mixture several times to build your acrylic nail up to height with the acrylic nail tip.
7. Let the acrylic dry for ten to twenty minutes.
8. Shape the nail with a nail file.

• You can apply acrylic nails yourself, but it takes practice. Prepare by having the necessary tools and ingredients and giving your nails a good manicure. Don't expect perfect results the first time; expect a few practice rounds first.
