Introduction
- Tired of dry and damaged hair? Have you tried different shampoos, conditioners, deep conditioners, hair masks and hair serum without results? Try a hot oil treatment. Hot oil treatments can be bought in a store or made by common household oils. Hot oil treatments should be used about once a week as a replacement of a deep conditioner or hair mask.
-
Step 1: Buying a Hot Oil Treatment
- Hot oil treatments can be bought in a store.
- Different store-bought hot oil treatment contain different types of oil and usually contain additional ingredients as well.
- Hot oil treatments bought in stores are generally heated by heating up the bottle itself. Often the bottle is heated in hot water. Follow the instructions of the specific product.
- If you have short hair, don't use all of the treatment, as this can result in oily hair.
- Some treatments sold in stores are self-heating, thereby eliminating the need to heat the oil first.
-
-
Step 3: Applying a Hot Oil Treatment
- Apply the hot oil treatment after it has cooled down to a comfortable and safe temperature.
- Apply it to damp hair.
- Massage the hot oil into your hair and scalp, making sure to cover all areas of your hair.
- Afterward, use a wide-tooth comb and comb through your hair.
- Depending on the condition of your hair, you can rinse out the treatment after a minute or two or let it sit for about half an hour.
- If you choose to let the treatment work for longer than a few minutes, wrap your hair in a towel for better results. This will work best if you first heat up the towel.
- Rinse the hair.
- Apply shampoo after the hot oil treatment. Use a mild shampoo for best results.
- Rinse out the shampoo, but don't follow with conditioner.
- If the treatment worked for your hair, repeat once a week for best results.
