Through Apple's iPhone App Store you can browse and then download thousands of applications for your iPhone—some of them are even free. However, applications may also be available on the websites of individual software and application development companies. Many applications for your iPhone are also compatible with the iPod touch. Regardless of what method you use to download the apps you're interested in, the next step is adding them to your phone so you can use them.

• There are two ways to download and add iPhone applications: Using iTunes on your computer, or directly on to your iPhone. For either method, you will have to have at least iPhone software 2.0 installed on your iPhone and have an Apple account. If you're using your computer, ensure that you have at least iTunes version 7.7 installed.

1. Using either your computer or your mobile device, navigate to the App Store
