It's important to check the pressure in your tires on a regular basis. Keeping the required amount of air pressure in your tires can help you avoid accidents, waste or gas and increased tire wear. If the tires do not have an adequate amount or air pressure, adding more is easy and only takes a few minutes. This page takes you through the steps on how to add air to tires.

Car Maintenance : How to Put Air in Car Tires
Before putting air in car tires, it's important to know what the recommended air pressure is from the manufacturer. Find out how to check a tire's air pressure, and how to allow air into a tire with help from the manager of an auto service shop in this free video on car maintenance.

Introduction
- Adding air to tires is an uncomplicated and quick task and is much easier than many other types of car maintenance such as changing or rotating tires.
It's important to check the pressure in your tires on a regular basis. Keeping the required amount of air pressure in your tires can help you avoid accidents, waste or gas and increased tire wear. If the tires do not have an adequate amount or air pressure, adding more is easy and only takes a few minutes. This page takes you through the steps on how to add air to tires.Step 1: How Much Air Do They Need?
- Before adding air to tires, check the tire pressure to make sure they need more air, and if so, how much.
- The amount of air pressure your tires need is measured in PSI (pounds per square inch).
- The required amount is often written on the sides of the tires. Usually this number is given in the maximum amount the tires need.
- You can also consult the manual of your car or a car mechanic for guidance.
Step 3: Adding Air
- To add air to tires, you will need an air compressor.
- Air compressors can be found at gas stations. You usually insert coins to start using it.
- You can also buy an air compressor yourself. Compressors that are powered by the battery terminal of the car are usually more efficient and expensive than those which connect to the cigarette lighter.
- Place the air hose onto the tire stem.
- Air will leak out until you properly attach the hose.
- If the air hose has a handle, you will need to press it to release air.
- Remove the air hose occasionally and check the pressure with the air pressure gauge. Stop when you reach the appropriate level of air.
- Even if the air compressor have an air gauge, you should check the pressure with an additional gauge for a more accurate result.
- If the tires are warm, you will need to add extra air.
- Screw the stem caps onto the tires again.
Step 2: How Much Air Do They Have?
- To find out how much air your tires have, use an air pressure gauge.
- You can buy either a basic or digital air pressure gauge.
- Digital ones are usually more expensive, but give better results and are easier to read.
- Unscrew the valve caps and push the tire gauge onto the valve stem for long enough to get a reading.
- For more information on how to use an air pressure gauge, consult Mahalo's guide on How to Check Tires.
