  • A Brief History

Staring out as the San Diego Rockets the team moved to Houston in 1971, occupying the Hofheinz Pavilion for the club's first four years in Houston. In 1977, the team made headlines for acquiring the, then, only high school basketball player, Moses Malone from the Buffalo Braves. Malone went on to win league MVP honors two years later in 1979.

In the early 1990s, a Rocket team lead by Hakeem Olajuwon went on to defeat the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals. The next year, they repeated the same feat, beating the Shaquille O'Neal lead, Orlando Magic. In the 2007-2008 season, the Rockets set the second longest winning streak of any NBA team with 22 straight victories.
