The Houston Comets was a women's professional basketball team that competed in the Western Conference of the WNBA. The team was sold by original owner Leslie Alexander in 2007, then taken over by the WNBA in early 2008. The league was unable to find a new owner for the Comets and decided to disband the team in December of 2008.ESPN.com: WNBA Disbands Comets... Owners Couldn't Be Found
Team History
They joined the league as a founding team in 1997. The Comets immediately dominated the league, winning the WNBA Championship the first four years. They have not had the same recent success however. The furthest they have reached since their dynasty years is the conference finals, which they lost in 2005.
