Introduction

Horror movies can ranges from thrillers like The Strangers to slashers ranging from Friday the 13th to Halloween. But the real key to a good horror movie depends on audience. Vampire movies and werewolf movies are extremely popular but movies like Stephen King's The Mist and Event Horizon showcase horror in a completely different manner.
Horror Directors

One of the important notes about horror movies is that some directors just get it. Other directors like Sam Raimi get their start in horror movies and then move on to other things. Raimi's Evil Dead movie is terrifying but his more recent fare Drag Me to Hell leaves a lot to be desired. For a real taste of horror, examine the classics including George Romero, Lucio Fulci and Sergio Argento.
