Horace Grant is a hometown native from Augusta, Georgia and he played basketball for the University of Clemson. His full name is Horace Junior Grant and has a son Horace Jr. Horace also has a twin brother Harvey Grant, who also played in the NBA. Horace Grant played professional basketball for the NBA. In 1987 Grant was the 10th overall pick and became a four-time champion for the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers. Horace played power forward and also some center. He teamed with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen on the Bulls Championship teams, while the 54 jersey Horace wore became popular. He was known for his wraparound glasses worn for games to protect his eyes. His nickname was “The General” and got it because of the great American Union general Ulysses S. Grant.
Horace Grant 2003-04 Season
The 2003-2004 season was the last of a great run by Horace Grant. He played in 55 games and only started 5 of those games. The season started off with great anticipation of an NBA Championship because of the star power that came to the Lakers. Players such as: Gary Payton, and Karl Malone with having Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal already. On March, 28 2004 Gray Payton become just the sixth player to reach 8,000 assists. On March 15, 2004 Kobe Bryant tied the franchise record for most points scored in a quarter, scoring 24 points. The team stayed healthy all season allowing them to gain chemistry and become a powerhouse that was unstoppable. Horace Grant ended his great career with the Los Angeles Lakers averaging 4.1 points a game and 4.2 rebounds a game. The Lakers went 56-26 with him coming off the bench as they fell to the Detroit Pistons in the Finals after being heavily favored.
