Hootie & the Blowfish are an American pop-rock band from South Carolina. Powered first by the single "Hold My Hand" and then by "I Only Wanna Be With You" and "Let Her Cry," their 1994 major-label debut album, Cracked Rear View, became a huge success, selling over 16 million copies in the United States alone. Though they never matched the success of their debut, their subsequent album releases did go multi-platinum.
Though it could be easily assumed that the lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish is named "Hootie," the band name actually came from nicknames singer Darius Rucker gave to two college classmates.
