Hoot

Based on the children's novel by Carl Hiaasen, Hoot follows a group of children who fight a pancake company CEO who wants to build on top of an owl habitat.

The film was directed by comedy writer Wil Shriner and produced by musician Jimmy Buffett.

Production and Distribution Issues

Hoot was shot in Florida in the summer of 2005. The production had to be halted when Hurricane Katrina struck the filming sites on August 25. Due to these obstacles, several of the later scenes on the production schedule were shot in Los Angeles.

New Line Cinema released the film on May 5, 2006, betting that the film would not be affected by the release of Mission: Impossible III. The film earned $3.4 million in its first weekend and ended up with just over $8 million grossed in its domestic theatrical run.
