The Honda Center, or "The Pond" is located in Anaheim, California. This indoor arena was opened in June of 1993 and is home to the Stanley Cup winning, Anaheim Ducks hockey team.http://ducks.nhl.com/index.html It was also the home of Anaheim Storm, a national Lacrosse Team. The Anaheim Storm was a part of the National Lacrosse League and the franchise folded, in 2005. The Honda Center hosts a variety of other sporting events in addition to the ones listed, including first and second round regional games in the 2008 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournaments. The Honda Center is also known for It's large scale concerts, with acts ranging from Kiss and Metallica to the Jonas Brothers and Brittney Spears. The first event held at the arena was a concert for Barry Manilow on June 19, 1993.http://www.hondacenter.com/HondaCenter.aspx?page=AboutUs.aspx The highest grossing concert to date is currently held by artists T-L-C. Also the Warped Tour held a two day concert in the parking lot of the Honda Center in 2000.
History
The original name for the Honda Center was the Anaheim Arena, the name change took place in 2006 after Honda bought the naming rights for $60 million dollars. The building itself began construction in 1991 for roughly $120 million dollars. Since the arenas start it has been home to some of the largest concerts in the Anaheim area. Tina Turner Ended her career for the time being at the arena, with the last show of her record breaking "Twenty Four Seven Tour." In 2008 Tina Turner sold out the arena with her return concert that was apart of "Tina!: 50th Anniversary Tour." The first concert for the arena sold out, and other events frequently do the same. The arena is home to Stars on Ice, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Champions on Ice and The Harlem Globetrotters when they are traveling.
