  • The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is an organization consisting of foreign journalists who cover Hollywood news and reviews. It is best known for creating and organizing the annual Golden Globe Awards.

    The HFPA was founded in 1943 by a correspondent for the Daily Mail, a UK newspaper. Its chief aim is the dispersal of news about Hollywood to countries outside North America.

    According to the New York Times: "Internally, the press association functions like an exclusive club, admitting a maximum of five new members a year, though more often [...] accepting only one. Any single member may object to a new member, making it extremely difficult to join."
