About Hofstra University
Built from the estate of late millionaire William Hofstra, the trustees, Howard Brower and James Barnard, were trying to find a proper dedication to the Hofstra family. By the fall of 1934, the decision to create a place for higher learning was agreed upon. Years later, the university has grown to a campus holding over 8,000 full-time students, with a remote campus in the Netherlands, where the Hofstra family first originated.Hofstra: Creating the University
