The History of Hip Hop began with people singing over strong beats, sometimes spoken word with an emphasis on lyricism. Hip-Hop started in the 1970s, then grew stronger in the 1980s. It became mainstream in the 1990s to present with ever changing styles and genres that cannot be labeled due to the extreme diversity of the artists. From the East Coast to the West and everything in between, hip-hop music and culture is seen and heard everywhere.
