Hillary Clinton announced her intention to run for the Democratic Nomination in the 2008 Presidential Election on January 20, 2007.
A longtime party insider, Clinton was considered the favorite for nomination for much of the early fundraising and campaigning stages of the race. However, mixed results in early primaries left Clinton and her main competition, Barack Obama, almost even after Super Tuesday.
When Clinton lost the next 11 primaries and caucuses, Obama emerged as a new favorite in the race. Though Clinton gained a small comeback in recent primaries, most believe she will not be able to make up the deficit with the uncommitted delegates remaining.
Currently, the Clinton campaign is continuing its run for the nomination, amidst increasing calls from the Democratic Party to concede a loss and recognize Obama as the party's candidate for president.
