Finding the Right Boot
There are hundreds of types of hiking boots out there so it's best to know what you will need the boot for. If you are a day hiker on an easy terrain, then a light weight boot will offer enough support. If you are venturing towards a more moderate terrain look for a mid-weight boot, and for more challenging terrain you may want to explore mountaineering boot options. These are completely sealed boots that do not allow moisture in and are designed for warmth in extreme conditions.
The Right Fit
When trying on hiking boots be sure to bring the type of sock that you will be wearing on your hike. You don't want a boot that is a little tight because when you hike your feet will swell a bit and you need to allow room. This does not mean that you should get a boot that is too large for you. Find a boot that allows you to move your toes but doesn't allow you to move your heel. This will prevent blistering and also any ankle problems.
