Highway Serial Killings Initiative

  • The Highway Serial Killings Initiative is a computer database that lists the names of over 500 women whose bodies have been discarded at motels, truck stops and other related areas along various trucking routes throughout the United States. The FBI first made a connection between serial killers and long haul truckers while investigating a series of murders along interstate 40 five years ago.The FBI believes serial killers have been posing as truckers for over three decades, killing prostitutes, stranded motorists and hitchhikers. The Los Angeles Times: FBI database links long-haul truckers, serial killings (April 5, 2009)
  • The Database

The database contains the names of over 500 women whose bodies have been discovered over the past three decades dumped at truck stops, motels and other accessible areas to truckers. It also contains information on actual truckers who have been charged or suspected of raping or killing near the above areas where bodies have been found. Although the FBI has no statistics linking truck drivers to serial killing, it believes the pattern of body dumps, evidence collected and the mobility of the profession suggest the possibility. The FBI only recently made the initiative public when it opened up and showed some of its files to the LA Times. The Los Angeles Times: FBI database links long-haul truckers, serial killings (April 5, 2009)
