Off the success of the Disney Channel movie, High School Musical, its soundtrack sold over 4.5 million copies in the United States, beating out Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts to be the top selling album of 2006.

Featured on the soundtrack are the film's cast members: Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Efron, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu, and Monique Coleman.

The album hit #1 on the Billboard 200, and nine of its tracks made it to the Billboard Hot 100, with "Breaking Free" hitting the #4 spot.
