Following the success of the first High School Musical soundtrack in 2006, the music for High School Musical 2 also debuted at #1 of the Billboard 200, selling over 5.3 million copies in just five months.
Most of the original film's cast returned for the sequel, and likewise appear on the soundtrack: Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Efron, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, and Corbin Bleu.

Critical Response
- "It's tailor-made for kids to sing and dance along with, and they might not notice that it's not quite as fresh or imaginative, relatively speaking, as the original was." - Allmusic
- "Puppy love is grand, but for anyone who truly appreciates the let's-put-on-a-show spirit that 'HSM' embodies, I'm not sure that [Tisdale] isn't the real heroine after all." - Entertainment Weekly
