High Fidelity is a 2000 romantic comedy film based on the acclaimed novel by British author Nick Hornby. John Cusack stars as Rob Gordon, a Chicago record store owner who constantly relates life to pop music and sees his world through a series of "Top Five" lists. After being dumped by his girlfriend, Laura (played by Iben Hjejle), Gordon goes on a quest to find the reasons behind his increasing number of failed relationships by revisiting the ex-girlfriends of his "Top Five Most Painful Breakups."
Gordon's store, Championship Vinyl, is not exactly booming with business. He often discusses his lists with his two employees, Barry (played by Jack Black) and Dick (played by Todd Louiso). Black's comedic performance as foul-mouthed music snob Barry is often credited as being one of his breakout film roles.
Cusack was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for his performance. High Fidelity also stars Tim Robbins, Joan Cusack, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
