Based on Ed McBain's King's Ransom Book, High and Low is known for being one of Kurosawa's film noir efforts, as well as for providing a revealing look into the stark differences between the upper and lower classes in 1960s Japan.
Synopsis
Kingo Gondo, a wealthy Japanese businessman (played by frequent Kurosawa collaborator Toshiro Mifune), receives a call that his son has been kidnapped, and only an enormous ransom will secure his safe return. When it is revealed that the kidnappers took Gondo's chauffer's son by mistake, he must decide the extent to which he's willing to help in the boy's rescue.
