The camera is invisible in the sense that it is not in plain view, may be very tiny, and may be disguised as or inside another object. Hidden cameras are typically used as security devices for household or business surveillance. They are also utilized to monitor the safety of babies and small children by parents, babysitters & nannies, employees, and more. U.S. law prohibits filming without consent in private places.http://www.law.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/conlaw/rightofprivacy.html

  • Features and Functions

There are many types of hidden cameras. Hidden cameras are used in surveillance and are placed in locations that are not typically noticeable, generally above eye level. Hidden cameras are often disguised inside other objects, such as in smoke alarms, tissue boxes, fire sprinklers, electrical outlets, DVD players, clocks, air purifiers, and more. Hidden cameras may also be worn on a person in places such as a belt buckle, key chain, baseball cap, handbag, and a pen in a shirt pocket.

Most hidden cameras operate on battery power and some have connectors for AC electrical power. They typically transmit their signal wirelessly to a receiver that is then connected to a television, monitor, or recording device. Some hidden cameras contain flash memory and can record directly to the memory for download later. Viewing resolution and image quality are highly dependent on the camera, those with high-end CCDs have the best picture. Some hidden cameras also feature nightvision for filming in dark places.

    • Note on the U.S. law and hidden cameras: Video recording, with or without consent, is generally legal, but only in public places. A person has a right to privacy in the U.S., and therefore cameras in private places are illegal. This would include a person's home, bedrooms, bathrooms, changing rooms, etc. Several states also have laws specific to hidden cameras. You should consult with local law enforcement prior to installing a hidden camera.http://www.brickhousesecurity.com/about-hidden-camera-laws.html
