The HGTV Dream Home contest for 2010 began in early-January of 2010. The Home & Garden television network gave away a new house to one lucky winner in March 2010. Hopeful contestants could enter the HGTV Dream Home sweepstakes by visiting the official website and registering (for free). The last day to register was February 19, 2010. Lewis, the mother of an autistic son, Chris Lewis, lost her home in Hurricane Katrina. HGTV has been giving away a "dream home" annually for over a decade. The 2010 home is located in Sandida Park, just outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico. It is a 3900 square foot, contemporary house that features three bedrooms and bathrooms, a home theater, an outdoor entertaining area and a three car garage. The home is powered by solar power.
