Hercules

Disney's 35th full length animated feature film Hercules is loosely based on the Ancient Greek myth of the half human son of Zeus and his quest to rejoin his parents on Mount Olympus. To do so, Hercules must not only prove his worth, but also defeat Hades, the God of the Underworld, who is perpetually plotting to usurp Hercules' right to inherit the throne.

At the 1998 Academy Awards, Hercules composers Alan Menken and David Zippel were nominated for a "Best Music, Original Song" award.

In August of 1998, Disney released a straight to DVD prequel entitled Hercules: Zero to Hero which consisted of three segments. These segments would become the first three episodes of the Hercules animated television series, which appeared on ABC from August 1998 until March 1999.
