Early Life
Kohl studied business in college, earning a Master's degree from Harvard in the late 1950s. Following a six year stint in the U.S. Army Reserve, Kohl helped establish the department store chain that bears his name.Political Career
Though he wasn't elected to the Senate until 1988, Kohl's political career started much earlier when he was the chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin for two years in the mid-'70s. As a Senator, he has served on the Appropriations Committee, the Committee on the Judiciary, and is the Chairman of the Special Committee on Aging.
