Henry Sanchez, the brother of U.S. Representatives Linda and Loretta Sanchez, was reported missing after being involved in a boat collision on October 3, 2008. Sanchez had been en route to Catalina Island with his girlfriend Penny Avila--they are believed to have collided with a barge.Contra Costa Times: Brother of Reps. Statement
The following joint statement was released by Loretta and Linda Sanchez.- "Yesterday afternoon, our family was notified by the U.S. Coast Guard of a possible boating accident involving a family member. Our brother, Henry Sanchez, and his girlfriend, Penny Avila, left the Long Beach Harbor en route to Catalina Island at midnight and they never arrived. A debris field was found off the coast and it was determined fragments were from the boat our brother was on."Contra Costa Times: Brother of Reps.
