American author Henry Miller combined memoirs of his own personal experiences with personal philosophies and social commentaries to create controversial novels such as The Tropic of Cancer, The Tropic of Capricorn and Black Spring. Miller's frank and explicit depictions of sexual encounters led to several of his novels being banned in the United States for 30 years.FileRoom.org: Henry Miller's novels censored and banned in US due to their sexually explicitly content
