Former Illinois Representative Henry Hyde presided over the House during the Impeachment of Bill Clinton. He introduced the Hyde Amendment in 1976, which prohibited the use of federal funds for abortion.

Early Life
Hyde played basketball for Georgetown, where he lost in the championship round in 1943. During World War II, he served in the Navy and later became a Commander in the Naval Reserve. He earned a degree in law and eventually worked on Nixon's presidential campaign.
Political Career
After serving as majority leader in the Illinois House of Representatives, Hyde was elected to the U.S. House from Illinois' 6th district in 1974, a position he would remain in until shortly before his 2007 death.
