  • Early Years

    Zetterberg was originally drafted 210th overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1999 NHL Draft. He continued to play in his native Sweden for several years, including in the Olympics in 2002, before coming to the United States.
  • Recent Success

    He made his NHL debut with the Wings during the 2002-03 regular season, playing 79 games and scoring 22 goals and 22 assists. He was selected for the NHL All-Rookie Game and was selected as the Rookie of the Year by The Sporting News. Zetterberg returned to Sweden during the 2004-05 NHL Lockout and also represented his country in the 2006 Winter Olympics, winning the Gold Medal. In 2007 he was selected for his first NHL All-Star Game. He is nominated for the 2008 Selke Trophy for the top defensive forward in the league.
