Talibans claim that they were the ones responsible for the first crash. They said they hit the helicopters with heavy machine gun fire and a rocket propelled grenade the moment the chopper lowered to the ground. This chopper just extracted soldiers after their mission to raid a group of drug smugglers.

Although the US denies that the Talibans are involved claiming that the fire in the West resulted to the dreadful crash, the Talibans explanation seemed to be coherent with what had occurred according to a news source (CBS News). Ten people were killed instantly and 12 Afghans and Americans survived in this accident.

The next crash that occurred involves two helicopters. The two helicopters that collided mid-air are US Marine choppers (a UH-1 and an AH-1 Cobra). It crashed early morning on the southern province of Helmand, killing four American troops and two others.
