Heimdall Mythology
Heimdall could hear better than anything alive. His hearing was so acute that he could hear grass growing and wool growing on a sheep. Heimdall could also see for 100 miles around him, even at night. He required less sleep than a bird. http://www.pantheon.org/areas/mythology/europe/norse/articles.html He used these skills to guard the bridge Bifrost, the entrance to Asgard, from the frost giants.http://users.dickinson.edu/~eddyb/mythology/Heimdall.html The frost giants wanted to destroy the Norse gods, and Heimdall kept up a constant watch to make sure that they could not do this. To protect Bifrost, he used his swift steed Gulltop, riding back and forth across the bridge. He did this most frequently in the morning, and was given the name "Herald of the Dawn".http://www.wizardrealm.com/norse/gods.html
