Heeb Magazine, founded in 2002 by Jennifer Bleyer, is a popular culture publication focusing on the young Jewish-American demographic. Bleyer left the magazine following her graduation from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Joshua Neuman took over as editor and publisher of the magazine.
Crimes of Passion
The fifth issue of Heeb's contained a pictorial spoof of the Mel Gibson movie, The Passion of the Christ. It included a Virgin Mary, who was half naked and had body piercings, and Jesus, wearing a prayer shawl as a loin cloth. The director of the Anti-Defammation League called the spread "blasphemous to both Christians and Jews."ADL.org: Heeb Magazine's "Crimes of Passion" Issue Offensive and Blasphemous
