Heavy Rain Walkthrough

Heavy Rain is an Interactive Drama created by the developers Quantic Dream and written/directed by David Cage, the mind behind the game Indigo Prophecy (Also known as Farenheit outside the US.) The game was released on February 23 in North America to mostly positive reviews by critics who call the game a "breath of fresh air for gaming" and "an emotionally engaging thrill-ride from start to finish." http://www.gamepro.com/article/reviews/213908/heavy-rain/ http://www.consolemonster.com/article.php?id=0000000804

As of March 23, 2010, Heavy Rain has garnered an 87 percent average rating on metacritic.com

Story

The story of Heavy Rain involves the hunt for a serial killer known as the Origami Killer, who kidnaps kids, drowns them, and then leaves them on a piece of wasteland with a piece of origami in their hand and an orchid on their chest. The story is explored through the perspectives of four controllable main characters who each have a stake in catching the Origami Killer.

The main characters that the player can control include Ethan Mars, a desperate father who is put through hell to ensure that his son does not become the Origami Killer's next victim, Scott Shelby, a private investigator who is commissioned by family members of the Origami Killer's victims to find out who killed their son, Norman Jayden, an FBI agent who is called in to aid the police in their search for the Origami Killer, and Madison Page, a insomniac who has her own reasons for getting close to the Origami Killer case.

Gameplay

Players are able to interact with the game's story by participating in quick time events during cutscenes that challenge them to press a specific button or perform a gesture with the controller in a short amount of time. The successes or failures of these events will shape the story with some major characters even being able to die if the player fails a critical event. Players can also choose what they want their character to say at key points of a conversation and can also alter the direction of the game depending on what conversation threads they explore.

Walkthrough

SPOILER WARNING

This walkthrough inevitably spoils many of the surprises in store for gamers who play Heavy Rain for the first time. It is recommended to only use this walkthrough for subsequent playthroughs to see what other possible outcomes there are for each chapter.

Chapter 1 - The Prologue

Chapter Objective: Get accustomed to the controls of Heavy Rain by interacting with various objects in Ethan Mars' home. Some things the player might want to try include doing some architectural work in Ethan's work room, playing with Jason and Shaun, helping set the table, taking care of Ethan's hygiene concerns by taking a shower, brushing his teeth, and shaving, and helping out Ethans wife by bringing in the groceries.

Potential Outcomes After greeting his wife, getting ready for Shaun's party, and eating dinner, the only possible outcome for this chapter is Shaun's bird dying at the end.

Chapter 1 - The Mall

Chapter Objective: Ethan spends time with his family at the mall and undergoes a major crisis when his son Jason goes missing. Ethan must wade through crowds and search for the red balloon he bought for his son to find him before it is too late.

Possible Outcomes: No matter how hard you try, you cannot save Jason from getting run over by a car and dying here. It's the tragedy that sets the plot of Heavy Rain into motion.

Chapter 1 - Father and Son

Chapter Objective: It is now two years later and Ethan and his son, Shaun's relationship has become estranged. Attend to Shaun's needs by making him dinner, getting him to finish his homework, and making sure he goes to bed on time. You should also check the ominous letter found in the mail stack by the front door.

Possible Outcomes: While nothing in this chapter affects the overall direction of the game, Shaun's reaction towards you will be different depending on how well you took care of him. Act like a good father and Shaun will tell you that it's not your fault that Jason died. Force him to go to bed too early or refuse to let him watch TV when he has nothing else to do and he'll scorn you. At the end, no matter what you do, Ethan will black out and wake up in the middle of a street, nearly getting hit by a truck.

Chapter 1 - A Sleazy Place

Chapter Objective: Private Investigator, Scott Shelby, is investigating the case of the "Origami Killer." A serial killer who goes after only children and typically winds up drowning them and leaving their dead body in some sort of deserted wasteland with a orchid on their chest and a piece of origami in their hand. His case leads him to the apartment of Lauren Winter, the mother of one of the Origami Killer's victims. As Shelby, the player should try to get as much information out of Lauren about the killer as possible. When a shady looking man enters the room, defend Lauren as best as you can to leave a lasting impression on her.

Possible Outcomes: Asking different questions here will provide you with different clues about the Origami Killer and his MO, but other than that, nothing you do here will have an overall effect on the story. Shelby can't die during this fight and the worst that can happen is him getting a couple of bumps and bruises on his face.

Chapter 1 - Crime Scene

Chapter Objective: FBI Agent, Norman Jayden, has been called in to investigate the case of the Origami Killer. He arrives at a crime scene where another boy has been found dead, drowned, and with an orchid and origami figure in their possession. As Norman, investigate the crime scene by examining the body, the tire tracks up the hill by the freeway, the orchid pollen in the air, the blood on the fence, the footprints, and talk to Lieutenant Carter Blake to learn all you can about the Origami Killer.

Possible Outcomes: You must examine at least the body and the tire tracks near the freeway before you're able to leave. Examining everything else is optional, but you should examine as much as you can anyway to get a better picture of what the Origami Killer is all about. Once you've investigated enough, head to your car and leave.

Chapter 1 - The Shrink

Chapter Objective: Disturbed by what happened to his son Jason two years ago, Ethan has been visiting a psychologist. Complete the ink blot test and answer the shrink's questions however you wish.

Possible Outcomes: You can choose to answer the questions however you wish without fear of it causing anything to happen in the future.

Chapter 1 - The Park

Chapter Objective: Ethan takes Shaun to a park after school and attempts to bond with him once again. Play with Shaun by going around to the various pieces of playground equipment and asking Shaun if he wants to join in. You can go to the seesaw, the merry-go-round, throw the boomerang found in Shaun's backpack, or play on the swings. After two games, take Shaun to the carousel to trigger another black out that will result with Shaun going missing.

Possible Outcomes: Once again, this is a major plot event and there is nothing you can do to stop it. You must take Shaun to the Carousel, you will blackout, and Shaun will go missing.

Chapter 1 - Where's Shaun

Chapter Objective: Desperate to find his son, Ethan searches all throughout the park and his home only to find that the only clue he has to his son's whereabouts is the piece of Origami that got mysteriously placed into his hand when he woke up from his blackout.

Possible Outcomes: Obviously, you can't find Shaun here as he's already long gone. Search the park to find Shaun's backpack then run home to check Shaun's room.

Chapter 1 - Welcome Norman

Chapter Objective: After investigating the scene of the crime, Jayden returns to the police precinct to become acquainted with the local police force. After chatting with Captain Perry, speak with the receptionist to find out about the golden watch given to lieutenants upon their promotions. She will then guide you to your office where you can examine the clues you found at the crime scene. After going over the clues, Jayden will be hit by a craving for triptocane. Either fight the urge and make it to the bathroom to wash your face, or give in to it and take the drug. The perspective will then shift over to Ethan Mars who is filing a report about his missing son.

Possible Outcomes: If you choose not to take the triptocane, you'll remain on track to get the Detox trophy by remaining tripto free throughout the game. Likewise, if you manage to answer all of Blake's questions correctly as Ethan, you'll earn the Got to Remember trophy.

Chapter 1 - Hassan's Shop

Chapter Objective: Shelby's investigation leads him to another parent of one of the Origami Killer's victims, who is currently the owner of a small convenience store. When he's suddenly caught up in the middle of a robbery, Shelby's decisions will ultimately determine the fate of the shopkeeper.

Possible Outcomes: While there are many different outcomes for how this scene can play out, none of them have any lasting impressions on the story. Shelby once again cannot die here, but the shopkeeper can if you don't approach the situation with caution. The robber can be easily talked down with reason or taken down by force. After the whole ordeal, you'll gain possession of Hassan's box filled with clues about the Origami Killer.

Chapter 2 - Sleepless Night

Chapter Summary: The player awakens as Madison Paige inside her apartment, seemingly suffering from insomnia. Explore your apartment, take a shower, make some coffee, but notice that with each action you perform, things start to seem more amiss. Sounds can be heard and figures appear out of the corner of your eye. Eventually you'll come under attack by intruders who seem intent on killing Madison.

Possible Outcomes: Fight as hard as you can, but no matter what, Madison will get killed, only to wake up and realize that it's only a dream.

Chapter 2 - Paparazzi

Chapter Summary: Back at Ethan Mars' now lonely house, he rediscovers a envelope with a letter and a locker ticket. Now that the paparazzi have staked out his house, he must find a way out to make his way to the locker and find out whatever he can about the disappearance of his son.

Possible Outcomes: Ethan can either walk right out through the front door and wade through the massive amounts of paparazzi, or he can go out through the back, hop over the fence, and head through a small alley to reach his car.

Chapter 2 - Lexington Station

Chapter Summary: A now agoraphobic Ethan must head through a crowded station to reach the mysterious locker. After hallucinating an eerie scene about killing everything he touches as he looks for Jason, he reaches the locker to find a shoebox.

Possible Outcomes: If you can knock into 50 pedestrians during the hallucination, you'll get the Agoraphobia trophy at the end of the chapter. Also, if you get the correct locker on the first try, you'll get the Lucky Locker trophy.

Chapter 2 - The Motel

Chapter Summary: Now living in an old Motel, Ethan opens the shoebox he obtained from the locker and finds several origami figures, a gun, a cell phone, and a memory card. The memory card shows a video of Shaun trapped in a well and a message that tells Ethan to complete the trials written on the origami figures if he wants to save his son. By completing the trials, he will earn the letters of the address where his son is waiting.

Possible Outcomes: You can place the box either on the table or under the bed. If its on the table, others might be able to find it if they come to your motel.

Chapter 2 - Kick Off Meeting

Chapter Summary: Jayden holds a meeting with the rest of the police on the case to let them know what he's found so far on the Origami killer.

Possible Outcomes: Blake's remarks will be very sarcastic and/or nasty towards Jayden. As the player, you get to decide whether you want Jayden to react calmly or aggressively towards Blake. Note that no matter your response, Jayden and Blake will never be best buds throughout the game.

Chapter 2 - Nathaniel

Chapter Summary: Investigate Nathaniel, a possible suspect in the case by checking out his apartment. When Nathaniel shows up and a stand off ensues, Jayden will have to make some quick decisions to try to keep everyone alive.

Possible Outcomes: There are two trophies you can get here for both options. If you press R1 during the standoff, you will shoot Nathaniel and get the "Blunder" trophy. Blake and Norman will have a conversation about the first time killing someone in the car during one of the upcoming chapters. If you manage to talk down Nathaniel by using psychology and don't ever press the R1 button, even when it seems like Nathaniel is going to pull out another gun, you will save an innocent man's life and get the "Self Control" trophy. Of course, Blake will grill you about it later.

Chapter 2 - Suicide Baby

Chapter Summary: Shelby's next stop in his investigation takes him to the home of Susan Bowles, the mother of the latest victim of the Origami killer. He enters through the backdoor and finds that Susan just attempted to take her own life. After saving her by using the supplies found in the bathroom and attending to the crying baby, Shelby is able to question Susan to find that her husband disappeared around the same time that her son was found dead. He left a cell phone that appears to have not belonged to him, which she hands over to Shelby before he leaves.

Possible Outcomes: If you are able to take care of the baby without making a single mistake, you will get the Baby Master trophy. Other than that, there are no other possible outcomes in this chapter and you cannot let Susan die.

Chapter 2 - The Bear

Chapter Summary: Ethan heads to the address on the origami figure and finds a car garage. After getting in the car prepared for him, he is given his first trial. He must drive against traffic for five miles and drive fast enough so he gets there in five minutes. Upon completion, he is given a key to unlock the glove compartment, which contains another memory card containing a video of Shaun and more letters of the address.

Possible Outcomes: While Ethan will survive no matter how badly you perform in the driving section, failing one of these origami trials will make it harder to find his son. Failing two trials will make it impossible for Ethan to find Shaun on his own, leaving him to rely on Madison to call him if she ends up finding his location. As far as trophies go, if you manage to make only a few mistakes while driving, you'll earn the "Good Driver" trophy. For the Kamikaze trophy, you must not only make no mistakes, but you must also always make the correct decision when it comes to veering left or right. In other words, you must veer in the direction where there is no oncoming traffic.

Chapter 2 - First Encounter

Chapter Summary: Madison checks in at the same Motel Ethan has been staying at and runs into him as he returns from his trial. She helps Ethan back to his room and attempts to help him by applying medicine to his cuts. After Ethan takes a shower and either dismisses or thanks Madison for her help, he opens the box and looks at the next origami figure.

Possible Outcomes: As Madison, if you fail too many times at giving Ethan the right medicine for the right or apply it wrongly, Ethan will shoo you away. While this doesn't make too much of a difference in the overall plot, you'll miss out on some character development between the two if Madison is excused early.

Chapter 2 - The Covered Market

Chapter Summary: After having a conversation that depends on your actions in the Nathaniel chapter, Jayden and Blake confront another suspect who suddenly takes off into a covered market. Jayden chases the suspect through the market and into the meat locker where he is eventually arrested by Blake.

Possible Outcomes: If you fail at keeping up with the suspect, he will get away and the chapter will end right there. If you make it to the meat locker but lose the fighter, Carter will step in right as you're about to get killed to arrest him. If you win the fight, you'll earn the Cat and Mouse Trophy.

Chapter 3 - A Visitor

Chapter Summary:Shelby wakes up in his office and is eventually greeted by the sound of his doorbell. It's Lauren Winter, the woman he saved back in the chapter entitled "A Sleazy Place". She wants to help Shelby uncover the killer and offers a envelope that she received the morning her son disappeared. After her husband read the letter inside, he left and she never saw him again. Shelby tells her that the address on the envelope was written with an old typewriter and may provide a lead. Despite Shelby's protests, Lauren's persistence pays off an the two become partners.

Possible Outcomes: No trophies or alternate outcomes for this chapter. Lauren's Shelby's partner whether he likes it or not.

Chapter 3 - Kramer's Party

Chapter Summary: Shelby and Lauren head over to a party thrown by a guy named Gordi Kramer. After using a drunk party goer to create a distraction, Shelby heads up stairs and confronts Kramer about his involvement in the murder of a young boy named Joseph Brown. After some questioning, Kramer eventually claims that he is the Origami Killer, and that he lured his victims into his car, drowns them, and then dumps them with a orchid on their chest and an origami figure in their hand. He does it because he's bored he says. After the reveal, Shelby and Kramer's guards will get into a fight, eventually winding up with Shelby either being escorted out of the house, or leaving of his own free will.

Possible Outcomes: Win the fight against Kramer's goons and you'll get the Tough Guy Trophy. Lose the fight and you'll simply be escorted out of the house. Either way, it doesn't make much of a difference in the overall scope of things.

Chapter 3 - The Butterfly

Chapter Summary: For his next trial, Ethan must endure some pain for the sake of his son. He infiltrates an abandonned power station by way of a dark tunnel filled with shards of glass. After crawling through the glass filled tunnel, he must make his way through a maze of electrified fences to reach the next memory card.

Possible Outcomes: There are several points where you can fail this trial and be forced to turn back without the memory card. If you push Ethan too hard in the glass filled tunnel and don't pause to rest when the red starts creeping in on the screen, you'll fail. If you get shocked three times by the electrified fence, you'll fail. And finally, if you head out through the door marked "Coward," you'll fail. If you fail the trial, you'll get the "Coward" trophy. Otherwise, you'll get the "Electrified" Trophy.

Chapter 3 - The Nurse

Chapter Summary: Madison once again encounters Ethan as he returns from his trial and must again nurse his wounds. She tends to his burns and lacerations then once again leaves Ethan so he can check the next piece of Origami.

Possible Outcomes: Madison can again mess up the treatment, but it doesn't make much of a difference. Either way Ethan will dismiss her and learn about his next trial.

Chapter 3 - Police News

Chapter Summary: After realizing that Miroslav Korda, the suspect you chased in the Covered Market chapter, is innocent, Blake and Norman are visited by Mrs Mars who tells them of one of Ethan's dreams where he mentioned drowning in the rain. The very next day, there was an announcement of the next victim of the Origami Killer. Going on this information, the two decide to pay a visit to Ethan Mars' shrink.

Possible Outcomes: Since there's no gameplay in this chapter, there's no other possible outcome.

Chapter 3 - Shrink and Punches

Chapter Summary: Despite the psychologist's reservations about sticking to the Hippocratic Oath, Blake's rough interrogation techniques eventually cause him to say his opinion of Ethan Mars' mental state. He says that Ethan has had psychological problems since the death of his first son and is haunted by visions of drowning bodies. He also shows them the most incriminating piece of evidence: an origami figure that fell out of Ethan's pocket during one of their sessions.

Possible Outcomes: As Jayden, the player can either try to stop Blake as he proceeds to beat up and thrown around the poor psychologist, or he can stay back and let the interrogation continue. Either way, the outcome will remain the same and you still won't be able to get on Blake's good side even if you let him do as he wants.

Chapter 3 - The Golf Club

Chapter Summary: Shelby is called by Gordi Kramer's father to play some golf, and to warn him to back off from investigating his son. Shelby assures Mr. Kramer that as long as his son is innocent, he has nothing to fear from the investigation. Despite Kramer's thinly veiled threats and attempts of bribery, Shelby leaves without ever promising to stay away from his son.

Possible Outcomes: The only bit of gameplay in this chapter involves using the golf club, so there's no opportunity to change the way the scene plays out.

Chapter 3 - The Lizard

Chapter Summary: Ethan arrives at the location of his next trial, which happens to be an abandonned room in an old run down apartment complex. After finding the key inside a ceramic lizard on the floor, he learns that his next trial involves him suffering to save his son. He has five minutes to cut off the last part of one of his fingers in front of the camera.

Possible Outcomes: There are several instruments to use in order to do the job, including a butcher's knife, a saw, a hatchet, pliers, or some scissors. If you want to get the Gold Finger trophy, you must cut off the finger with the hatchet, knife, or pliers and then either disinfect or cauterize the wound afterwards. The disinfectant can be found in the bathroom cabinet and the wound can be cauterized by heating up the steel rod found on the floor. You can also get the Butcher trophy by cutting off the finger with either the saw or the scissor.

Chapter 3 - The Fugitive

Chapter Summary: Blake and Norman are closing in on Ethan as he holes up in the apartment after his last trial. Madison arrives and tries to help Ethan escape capture from his pursuers. Their success on the escape is entirely dependent on the player, but if successful, the pair will escape through the window, cut through a busy street into a subway and then past a crowd of civilians to reach a subway train.

Possible Outcomes: This is the first time where your actions directly have an impact on what happens next. If you take too long in your escape, Ethan will get arrested and you'll move on to the chapter entitled "Under Arrest." You will also get the "Hands Up!" trophy. If you and Madison successfully escape to the subway train, you'll skip the "Under Arrest" chapters, move on to "Jayden Blues," and obtain the "Fugitive" trophy.

Chapter 3 - Under Arrest

Chapter Summary: As mentioned above, this chapter is only available if Ethan gets caught in the previous chapter. Players take control of Norman as he and Blake proceed to interrogate Ethan. As usual, you have the option of intervening when Blake starts getting rough with his interrogation. Blake gets sick of your interferrence and Norman decides to go tell Captain Perry of Blake's methods. Unfortunately, Perry decides to side with Blake, causing Jayden to head back into his office and fight off the urge to take triptocane once again.

Possible Outcomes: If Jayden takes the tripto, you'll skip to the chapter Jayden Blues before coming back to part 2 of this chapter. If Jayden doesn't take the tripto, he can go back to the interrogation room, tell the guard to leave him and Ethan alone, and then get Ethan out by disguising him with a police jacket. You can get the jacket from the room on the other side of the interrogation room and the key to Ethan's cuffs on the second desk down on the left. Make sure that the camera in the interrogation room is turned off before you set him free to get the Wise Guy trophy.

Chapter 3 - Jayden Blues

Chapter Summary: Jayden starts out the chapter playing the piano in his dream like ARI world. He's convinced that Ethan Mars is not the origami killer and decides to go over the evidence once again. After reviewing the evidence, he finds a potential lead in the killer's car, which was stolen by a man named Jackson Neville, also known as Mad Jack. After taking the glasses off, Jayden will go through withdrawal again. He either takes the triptocane or finds other ways of keeping his mind occupied long enough for the withdrawal to go away.

Possible Outcomes: Once Jayden is suffering from withdrawal, you can take the tripto and end the chapter right then and there. Otherwise, you can flush the tripto down the toilet to get the Detox trophy, and then use the shower to cool your head. Also, if you manage to not miss a note on the piano, you'll get the Ludwig Von trophy.

Chapter 4 - Manfred

Chapter Summary: Investigating the typewriter lead, Shelby and Lauren visit one of Scott's old acquaintances, Manfred. They ask Manfred if he has any information regarding the typewriter used to type the letters on the envelope Lauren found. Manfred says he has a list of clients who owned the typewriters in his office and goes off to check. After a few minutes, Scott goes to check on him to find that he's been mysteriously killed and the cops have been called. With only minutes to react, Shelby and Lauren attempt to wipe down everything in the room they touched and leave before the police arrive. At the end of the chapter, Shelby tries to convince Lauren that things are becoming too dangerous and that she should leave the case now. In the end though, Shelby isn't able to kick her out for good and the two get back together.

Possible Outcomes: If you manage to wipe down everything in the room that you touched, including the front door, the scotch bottle, the cups, the phone in the back, the phone in hte front, the ballerina that Lauren was looking at, the magnifying glass, and anything else you might have touched out of curiosity, you will escape capture by the police. If you do get caught, you'll see an extra scene involving Shelby being questioned at the police station and having a run in with Blake.

Chapter 4 - The Shark

Chapter Summary: Ethan's next trial involves killing a drug dealer in his own apartment. After forcing his way inside, Ethan hesitates to shoot and gives the dealer enough time to get his shotgun. A chase ensues that eventually ends up in the dealer's daughter's room. With no more shells left in his shotgun, the dealer pleads with Ethan to spare his life.

Possible Outcomes: If Ethan fails too many of the button prompts during the chase, the dealer will simply kick him out of his apartment and the chapter will end. If you manage to make it to the daughter's room, then you have the choice of killing him to pass the trial and gain the next letters of the address, or you can spare him and fail the trial. If you kill him, you'll get the I'm a Killer... trophy and if you don't, you'll get the I'm not a Killer! trophy.

Chapter 4 - The Doc

Chapter Summary: Madison's own investigation takes her to the house of a doctor who owns the apartment where Ethan had the Lizard trial. She knocks on the door and is eventually invited in by a creepy old man who offers her a drink.

Possible Outcomes: Be warned, this is the first chapter where it is possible for a major character to be killed off. If you take the drink, you'll be knocked out and will wake up tied up to a table in the basement as the doctor plans to literally put a drill through Madison.

If you don't take the drink, convince the doctor to find you some insomnia medicine and he'll head off to the kitchen alone. From here, you can go into the door on the left and look on the desk for a Blue Lagoon card. With the card in hand you can simply leave the apartment and move on to the next chapter. If you want to live dangerously though, you can try to follow the doctor and he'll knock you out with a baseball bat.

Once you wake up in the basement, if you manage to break free and kill the doc, you'll get the Queen of Ropes trophy. If you don't take the drink, you'll get the Smart Girl trophy.

Chapter 4 - Mad Jack

Chapter Summary: Jayden arrives at the junkyard of Mad Jack, the man who supposedly stole the car that Jayden suspects belongs to the Origami Killer. After investigating the garage, Jayden concludes that the killer was definitely present due to the discovery of orchid pollen, tire tracks belonging to the killer's car, and traces of the same blue paint found on the car. As he tries to leave, Mad Jack ambushes him, causing a fight to ensue.

Possible Outcomes: Jayden can die at several points in this fight if you fail too many of the button prompts. If you manage to get to the point where Jayden threatens Mad Jack with the gun, he will begin going through withdrawal symptoms again. If you can follow the button prompts and take the tripto, you'll arrest Mad Jack right there and move on to the next chapter. Otherwise, you'll drop the tube and be forced to escape from a car crusher before you can start your fight up again. Of course, if you fail during the car crusher or during the second part of the fight, Jayden will die. By escaping from the car crusher and killing Mad Jack, you'll earn the Goodbye Mad Jack trophy.

NOTE: If Norman dies here, skip all Norman related chapters from here on out.

Chapter 4 - Eureka

Chapter Summary: Shelby and Lauren return to his apartment to piece together the evidence in Shelby's possession and narrow down the list of suspects. Their thinking leads them to cross checking the list of clients that Lauren got from Manfred with the list of subscribers to origami magazines. The chapter ends with the two finding a match.

Possible Outcomes: Other than making good or bad scrambled eggs, there are no other possible outcomes for this chapter.

Chapter 4 - The Cemetary

Chapter Summary: Shelby and Lauren head to a cemetary to find the grave of the only man who's name was on both lists, John Sheppard. After finding the grave and talking with the groundskeeper, a flashback starts to play.

Possible Outcomes: No other possible outcomes.

Chapter 4 - Twins

Chapter Summary: Players control an unknown young boy in a flashback in this chapter as he plays with his brother in a construction yard. At the end of the chapter, the boy's brother, John, winds up trapped in an underground water pipe while you go to get some help.

Possible Outcomes: Despite your efforts, you can't pull John out from the water.

Chapter 4 - Flowers on the Grave

Chapter Summary: After the flashback you'll return to the cemetary where the groundskeeper finishes the story. He'll say that the other boy that lived was separated from his parents and then adopted. The chapter ends with Lauren and Shelby spotting Mr. Kramer placing flowers on the grave of John Sheppard.

Possible Outcomes: No other possible outcomes.

Chapter 4 - Sexy Girl

Chapter Summary:Madison arrives at the Blue Lagoon club thanks to the card she found at the Doc's house. She pretties herself up in the woman's bathroom and then gains an audience with the club's owner, Paco, by seducing him through dancing. The two go upstairs where Madison is forced to show Paco a little more than she might have wanted to before hitting him over the head with a lamp and tying him to a chair. She manages to learn of John Sheppard, the guy who rented the apartment from the Doc.

Possible Outcomes: Once Madison and Paco are upstairs, Madison can strip down all the way to just her panties, going even topless, but eventually she'll have to whack Paco with the lamp. If you use the lamp before removing the second article of clothing, you'll get the Pride Saved trophy.

Chapter 4 - Fish Tank

Chapter Summary: Jayden's investigation also takes him to the Blue Lagoon bar. As he heads up to Paco's office, a split screen will show Paco talking with an unidentified figure who will eventually kill him. When Jayden enters Paco's office, he'll get attacked and he will be in another fight for his life.

Possible Outcomes: Once again, Jayden can die here if you don't complete enough of the button prompts. Even if you hit all of the prompts though, the killer will escape and Jayden will be left to investigate the room for clues. If you leave without picking up the receipt on the floor next to the door, Jayden won't be able to piece together the puzzle and identify the killer.

Chapter 5 - On the Loose

Chapter Summary: Distraught over killing (or not killing) the drug dealer in his latest trial, Ethan laments about his decision as Madison tries to comfort him. Ethan is given the option of kissing Madison or pushing her away. If you choose to kiss, the two will have sex and Ethan will learn of Madison's true identity as a reporter who is covering the Origami Killer case. Ethan becomes furious at the idea of Madison simply getting close to him so she can do her story and is given the option of either rejecting or forgiving her. Ethan's motel will then be stormed by the cops, leading to yet another chase sequence with Ethan on the run.

Possible Outcomes: If Ethan chooses to push Madison away or refuses to forgive her, the two will not get together in the ending. If Ethan manages to escape from the cops in the chase, he will move on to the final trial and have a chance at being around for the final chapter. If he gets caught, he'll be stuck in jail for the remainder of the game. Escaping will also give you the Escape Master trophy.

Chapter 5 - Trapped

Chapter Summary: Shelby arrives home to find Lauren and Charles Kramer waiting for him. Kramer knocks out both Shelby and Lauren and traps them inside a car that is dumped into a lake.

Possible Outcomes: Shelby can escape either by himself or with Lauren in tow. To escape with Lauren, you must first get her out of the rope that binds her hands. Then you must break the window next to her and swim to safety. If you saved Lauren, she'll be around for the ending and you'll be able to see the chapter entitled "Goodbye Lauren."

Chapter 5 - Face to Face

Chapter Summary: An angry Scott Shelby storms the Kramer mansion to confront Charles Kramer after he tried to kill both him and Lauren. Once he comes face to face with Charles, Shelby learns that Gordi did in fact kill the child, but that it was just a copycat killing. Gordi Kramer is not the Origami Killer, despite his earlier confession.

Possible Outcomes: If Shelby gets shot too many times, he will be forced to retreat and you'll lose the chance to confront Kramer. Get to Kramer without getting shot even once though and you'll earn the Invincible Scott trophy. After you finish talking with him, Kramer will start suffering from a heart attack. If you give him his medicine and spare his life, you'll get the Kind Hearted trophy.

Chapter 5 - Ann Sheppard

Chapter Summary: Madison decides to pay a visit to the mother of John Sheppard in the hospital to find out what she can about John Sheppard's missing brother, whom she believes to be the Origami Killer. After jogging Ann's memory by showing her an orchid and origami figures, Ann whispers the identity of John Sheppard's brother, a secret which is met by a look of surprise on Madison's face.

Possible Outcomes: No other possible outcomes

Chapter 5 - The Rat

Chapter Summary: For Ethan's final trial, he must drink a phial of deadly poison that will kill him in 60 minutes. If he drinks it, he will receive the final letters of the address where Shaun is being held and will have enough time to save him and say good bye to him.

Possible Outcomes: This is the moment of truth. If you've successfully completed at least three of the previous trials, you'll be able to guess Shaun's location using the letters you have right now and don't have to take the phial. Otherwise, if you want to see Ethan in the finale, you can either rely on Madison to call him in the next chapter, or take the phial.

If you take the phial, you'll get the Sacrifice trophy. If you manage to figure out Shaun's location without taking the phial, you'll get the Clever Dad trophy. And if you completed all of the trials up to this point, you'll get the Trial Master trophy.

Chapter 5 - Solving the Puzzle

Chapter Summary: A visibly frustrated Norman puts in one last ditch effort to put the pieces together and solve the case.

Possible Outcomes: Note that unless you picked up the receipt from your run in with the killer in Paco's office, you won't be able to solve the case. Watch the surveillance video of the Blue Lagoon and pause the video when you can get a good look at the killer's wrist. The killer is wearing the same gold watch that is given to cops who are promoted to lieutenants. Norman will immediately think that Blake is the killer, but choose to investigate further. Examine the receipts and then do a geoprofiling on the "The killer is a Cop" clue. Norman will find that there is one cop who fits the geoprofile and that he has a warehouse on the docks where he is likely keeping Shaun Mars. Complete the investigation and Norman will earn his ticket into the finale.

Chapter 5 - Goodbye Lauren

Chapter Summary: Scott sends Lauren away on a train to stay with her mother for a couple of days. After he kisses her goodbye, the two go their separate ways.

Possible Outcomes: No other possible outcomes. This scene will only take place if Lauren is still alvie.

Chapter 5 - Hold My Hand

Chapter Summary: In part two of this flashback, players control the young boy as he runs to find help from his father. Unfortunately, their father is more interested in drinking and sitting around than saving his son from drowning. When the boy returns to his brother, he hears his last words, "Don't forget about me, Scottie."

Possible Outcomes: No other possible outcomes.

Chapter 5 - The Origami Killer

Chapter Summary: Now revealed as the Origami Killer, Scott Shelby burns all of the incriminating evidence that he has been collecting over the course of the game.

Possible Outcomes: No other possible outcomes

Chapter 5 - The Killer's Place

Chapter Summary: After getting the name from Ann Sheppard, Madison pays a visit to Shelby's apartment to find out where Shaun is being held. She discovers a hidden room in the closet with a computer that is password protected. After entering the password, "Max," Madison learns of Shaun's location and tries to escape but is blocked off by Shelby. Shelby locks Madison in the secret room and starts a fire outside. Time is ticking for Madison to make her escape.

Possible Outcomes: If Madison manages to escape from the apartment with the knowledge of Shaun's location, she will be able to call either Ethan or Norman to let them know if either of them were unable to figure it out. If she dies however, the game will move to the final chapter without her.

Chapter 6 - The Old Warehouse

Chapter Summary: Finally the climax is upon us. All of the survivors who figured out the puzzle will meet at the old warehouse where Shaun Mars is being held. This chapter varies dramatically depending on who's alive, but for the most part it involves someone rescuing and performing CPR on Shaun while the other fights Shelby.

Possible Outcomes: Everyone can either die or get arrested here in this final chapter and everything will have an impact on the ending. Experiment and play through it several times to experience the various different endings.
