The Pentagon has developed a Heat Ray Gun, also known as the Active Denial System, that makes people feel as if they're about to catch fire. This a non-lethal weapon, designed to make enemies drop their weapons without injury. The gun will also be useful for crowd control. It is not yet in production. 60 Minutes correspondent David Martin did a segment on the Pentagon's Ray Gun on March 2, 2008, and experienced the effect of the weapon first hand. He said it felt like "scalding water", but that the pain went away as soon as he moved out of range of the beam.
