Hawaii Vacation

  • Hawaii has a little bit of everything of everyone, whether you're an adventure seeker, a lover of the outdoors or someone who just wants to escape and relax. With its tropical weather and fantastic beaches, Hawaii is considered to be "paradise" by many, and continues to be one of the world's most popular tourist spots. Travel guides are available for five Hawaiian islands: Hawaii (commonly referred to as the Big Island), Kauai, Lanai, Maui, and Oahu.

  • Maui

Readers of Condé Nast Traveler have voted Maui the "Best Pacific Island," and with its perfect balance of culture and scenery, Maui doesn't disappoint. If you love the outdoors, take a drive along the road to Hana, or swim in Makena Beach, one of Hawaii's finest. And old Lahaina Town, which basically looks the same as it did many years ago, is a perfect spot for those who want to shop and eat, for it provides a glimpse into Maui's history as well.
  • Big Island

The Big Island is the largest Hawaiian island, home to the most active volcano in the world, Kilauea. On the Big Island, you can play in the snow atop Mauna Kea (the world's largest mountain), snorkel in the volcanically heated waters of the Kapoho Tide Pools, walk along the black sands of Punalu'u Beach, or find waterfalls as you hike through Waipio Valley. If you wanted to, you could snowboard and surf in the same day during winter, so if you like all sorts of adventures, the Big Island is a perfect spot.
  • Kauai

Known as "The Garden Isle" for its lush landscape, Kauai is probably the best Hawaiian island for travelers who want a purely outdoors getaway. Though some of the island's best natural attractions can only be accessed via helicopter, a hike through Waimea Canyon (aka "the Grand Canyon of the Pacific") is a must, as is a tour down the Wailua River, or a swim in one of Kauai's many beautiful beaches. And for those who love to golf, Kauai has some of the finest courses in the state.
  • Oahu

With shopping centers and restaurants galore, Oahu Vacation is probably the busiest Hawaiian island and the best choice if you want a more urban getaway. History buffs can visit the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor or learn about ancient Hawaiian history at the Bishop Museum. Those who prefer the outdoors can hike up Diamond Head and see a magnificent view of Waikiki at the top, or enjoy the Haleiwa surf at Oahu's north shore.
