Hawaii Election Results

On November 2nd, elections were held for the office Governor of the state of Hawaii. Democrat Neil Abercrombie won the election with 59% of the votes.The newly elected Governor has served in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2010/bios/#1587His opponent, Republican Duke Aiona, has been serving as the state's Lieutenant Governor since 2002. http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2010/bios/#13472

Elections were also held for the state's Senate seat. In the House elections, Democratic incumbent Mazie Hirono took 72% of the votes to beat Republican challenger John Willoughby. Hawaii, the 50th state in America, joined the Union in August 1959. In 1960, the state had three electoral votes in the 1960 election. After that election, the state received an additional electoral vote making its total four. Hawaii is considered a “blue” state having voted Democratic in every election with the exception of two. In 1972 and again in 1984, the state gave wins to Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. In 2008, Hawaiian native Barack Obama won by a landslide against John McCain by a 72% to 27% margin.http://www.270towin.com/states/Hawaii In fact, Hawaii is the only state that gave then-candidate Obama more than 70% of the vote.
