On November 2nd, elections were held for the office Governor of the state of Hawaii. In the House elections, Democratic incumbent Mazie Hirono took 72% of the votes to beat Republican challenger John Willoughby. Hawaii, the 50th state in America, joined the Union in August 1959. In 1960, the state had three electoral votes in the 1960 election. After that election, the state received an additional electoral vote making its total four. Hawaii is considered a “blue” state having voted Democratic in every election with the exception of two. In 1972 and again in 1984, the state gave wins to Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan.
