Hashim Thaci is the former leader of the Kosovo Liberation Army, the current leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, and the Prime Minister of Kosovo. Allegedly he was involved with organized crime and drug trafficking in the 1990s, activity he is suspected to have used to finance the operations of the Kosovo Liberation Army. On January 9, 2008 he became the seventh Prime Minister of Kosovo, winning 34% of the vote. On February 17, 2008, Kosovo Declared its Independence from Serbia and Thaci became the first Prime Minister of the newly independent state. Thaci has also focused his efforts a Prime Minister on fighting corruption and achieving regional recognition of Kosovo's Independence.
